There aren’t many surfaces that get quite as much wear as a gymnasium floor. Whether it’s basketball, volleyball, pep rallies, or any other activities, there’s a lot of stress being put onto the flooring. It’s important to keep your flooring in good shape, not only with regular maintenance and care, but by having it refinished.

Commonly Asked Questions Regarding Gym Floor Refinishing:

What are some common signs that it might be time to refinish a gym floor?

If you’re noticing a lot of chipping and peeling, along with some cracking in the flooring, than it’s probably a good time to look into getting your gym floor professionally refinished. At Heritage Hardwood Floors, we will be able to determine whether a full refinishing job is necessary, or just some small repairs.

How long will a gym floor refinishing job take?

It all depends on what type of shape the floors are in, and the size of the gym. Floors that are in really bad shape with a lot of cracking will obviously take longer than a floor that isn’t too far gone. Generally, the process will take a few weeks, but the time frame really wouldn’t be determined until we got in there. It’s best to plan for floor refinishing during a time when the gym isn’t being used as much (if you’re a school, it’s always good to do it during the summer months).

How often does a gym floor need to be refinished?

Again, this all depends on certain factors. Gym floors with a high volume of use will probably need to be refinished more regularly than gym floors that aren’t used as much. Some people will tell you that gym floor refinishing needs to be done about every 10 years, while other people like to get their flooring refinished once a year. Either way, it’s good to make sure that it’s kept up on so that the floor doesn’t get too far gone.

What type of maintenance do I need to perform on my gym floor?

The most important thing to do is just to make sure that you’re taking good care of the floor. Try to use a dust mop on it regularly, but make sure to never use water, or any oil-based treatments. Always be sure to address any chipping, or cracking issues immediately.
